The Twilight Saga, Eclipse is a 2010 American romantic fantasy film based around Vampires and Werewolves.
The trailer opens with a lens flare which is successful as it keeps the audience interested and excited. We then see an establishing shot of trees and forestry, this introduces the location which is a fictional town named Forks. The soundtrack at this point is slow pace and fairly draining. A narrative voice is then instigated sounding familiarly like the main character Edward Cullen. This automatically attaches the attention of 'fan girls' and 'team Edward's'. The screen fades to black then jump cuts to a long shot of two people sitting in a lavender field, the narrative voice continues talking giving information about the story. A montage of shots shows the two characters looking particularly close to one another holding each other tightly. We understand they are a couple in which the story is based upon.
As the screen fades to black we are presented with a long shot of The Volturi, with a narrative voice implying 'She's still human'. Twilight fans would understand from the previous film and the deals in which were made. New viewers may be a little confused at this point. After a black screen a close up shot of Dakota Fanning showing her deep dark red eyes and pale face, demonstrates she is a vampire and not a particularly nice one. She also states the "Volturi don't give second chances". Which leads audiences to believe Edward and Bella have done something wrong and a war may occur in the film. From this there is a close up of Edward and Bella looking disturbed and anxious. The contrast from his pale white skin to her red rosy cheeks directs audience to believe he is a vampire and she is mortal.
The soundtrack becomes faster in pace and much more gripping. We see a montage of shots showing Edward and Bella together along with her family, the narrative voice explains her wish to transform into a vampire, however, Edward not being too sure. The shots with her family position the audience to feel sympathy and slight emotion towards Bella and her choices.
We are then introduced to another main character Jacob, who declares his love for Bella through his dialogue and that she "wouldn't have to change" for him. The close up shots show both their emotions, him so deeply in love and Bella looking confused and upset.
Shot reverse shot is used to show both Edward and Jacob in conversation. Through Jacobs dialogue he tries to persuade Edward to hand Bella over to him as he suggests he's better for her than Edward ever will be. We see through Edwards emotions and body language that he doesn't want to accept the fact it could be true. This positions the audience to understand the love triangle and have their own opinion on who Bella should be with.
Before the screen dips to black their is a side angle silhouette shot of Bella giving her prevalence. The audience are left connecting with her as she's the last to be seen before a pause in action.
As the soundtrack becomes a lot louder and faster, the narrative of Bella states "She's found us". We are introduced to Victoria, the last remaining of the evil, human blood driving vampire. There is a slow tracking shot showing how powerful she is as she jumps over a cliff. A montage of shots shows how fast and superior she is compared to other characters. A close up shot is used to show her emotions/expressions as well as her rich red eyes.
The trailer finishes with Bella talking to both Edward and Jacob at different locations. The use of a cross cut is used to empathise this. We understand from this that both male characters love and adore the female character making audiences connect and relate to the film. The ending dips to black with a editing effect of a fade in transition which presents the title and release date. This is effective as it enables viewers to react to the information and process the date for when they can go and see it. Bella is left with prevalence mainly so audiences sympathise with her and want to see who she chooses encouraging them to see the film.
