I have decided to analyse the film poster for Batman V Superman. This is due to the film being extremely popular due to the combination of two of the worlds favourite superheroes. I feel this poster is successful due to the colours, lighting, props and positions in which it has used/created. The action and adventure film was very successful during production and distribution as it attracted many fans due to cross media convergence, synergy and advertisement.
The poster is positioned at a fairly low angle, demonstrating the strength and power between the two characters. The side view is also effective as it shows the differences in characters and that they are against each other. The picture itself explains a lot to viewers and doesn't leave audiences confused. The lighting present in the poster is fairly dark and mysterious conforming to the action genre as well as the plot, and types of characters. Both characters are dressed in their costumes positioning audiences to feel excited and engaged. The two completely differ from one another as Batman is dressed very dark and mysterious compared to Superman who is dressed in slightly warmer colours and doesn't hide his full identity. The medium shot enables us to see the characters body language, both characters have tightened fists implying they are ready to fight. This conforms the idea of superhero's and the protagonist as they are prepared to do whatever it takes to help save the world.
The creators of the film poster have profitably combined both symbols together creating an overall symbol of the two. The symbol is presented in red which connotes aggression, violence, death and masculinity. This conforms the genre of action, as the hero/protagonist faces many missions and problems along the way. The symbol implies the two are working as a team, however, the arrangement of the characters tells us something different. I feel this is effective as audiences aren't completely sure how the film will work and if they work together or not.
The title is shown quite small at the bottom of the poster, the font is in block capitals and shining in white, I feel they have done this as the image already explains itself fluently without needing a large title taking up room. The colour of the font helps it stand out amongst the dull background. The release date is also shown on the poster as it permits viewers to understand when looking at the poster without having to go and search the release date.
